Community congress on the co-management plan in the aquatic resources protection in Van Hung commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa
On the morning of March 30, 2022, the Advisory Board of the Community Organization for Protection of Aquatic Resources in Van Hung Commune coordinated with the People’s Committee of Van Hung Commune, Ran Trao Management Board and MCD to hold a community workshop to approve the protection and exploitation plan on aquatic resources operation regulations of the community organization to protect aquatic resources in Van Hung commune.
The workshop included the participation of more than 30 delegates comes from fishing community in 4 villages: Xuan Tu 1, Xuan Tu 2, Ha Gia, Xuan Vinh; MCD and consultants, Van Ninh District Economics Division, Khanh Hoa Fisheries Sub-Department, People’s Committee of Van Hung Commune and Ran Trao Management Board.
The representative of the Advisory Board briefly presented the important contents of the co-management plan on aquatic resources protection and exploitation and the operating regulations of the community organization to protect and manage aquatic resources in Van Hung commune. Under the facilitation of consultants and MCD, community members and authority agencies had openly participated in discussions and contributed inputs.
At the end of the meeting, the participants had been able to reach agreement about the contents of the co-management plan, operating regulations and launched the list of Community Organisation Member (52 people), Representative Board (8 people), Patrol Team (4 people) and Communication Team (4 people). The results from this workshop will be the basis for the Advisory Board to complete the dossier and submit it to the competent authorities for approval.
The activity is within the framework of the project “Supporting Vietnamese fisheries reform under the Fisheries Law 2017: from national to local action” implemented by MCD, sponsored by Ocean 5 through the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA). The objective of the project is to support the implementation and scale-up of co-management practices and to mobilize the participation of stakeholders and communities in the protection of marine resources in the central coastal region of Vietnam, contributing to the improvement and development of sustainable fisheries.
