My Tan trash trapper has achieved a total collection of 10 tons of plastic waste!

This week, in Nam Dinh province, MCD and the local core group who operates the prototype river trash capture tool (trash trapper) located in the nearshore water of the Red River in My Tan commune, My Loc district took a periodical check of the device, and reviewed the data. It was so exciting to find that the My Tan trash trapper has just reached a total collection of 10 tons of plastic waste in its operation. This is really a memorable milestone!

Apply technological tool to record waste data, increase the efficiency of community mobilization to participate in environmental protection activities

Waste collection and environmental clean-up has now become rather popular to youth in many places. In this year’s World Environment Day June 5, 2023, MCD coordinated with the Youth Union of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nam Dinh province to organize a waste clean-up activity in the area around Vi Xuyen lake in the centre of Nam Dinh city, using the ICC method and more specifically, the Clean Swell application on mobile phones was introduced and used to help the collectors gather and record information and data about various types of waste in a more convenient and quick manner, avoiding use of printed data sheets, and simultaneously make inputs to the global database. With this advantage, ICC and Clean Swell application are highly appreciated and have the potential to be further popularized and applied in environmental protection activities.
