Khanh Hoa and Ca Mau provinces approved and rolling on implementation of provincial Co-management Plan for Fisheries Resource Protection – a significant step toward enhancing sustainable marine resource management
Within the framework of “Technical support for promoting co-management and marine conservation practices in Vietnam and engaging in relevant regional collaboration” The Centre of Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) has provided technical support to Khanh Hoa and Ca Mau provinces in formulating, consulting, finalizing, and facilitating the approval of the provincial Co-management Plan for fisheries resource protection (hereinafter referred to as “the Co-management Plan”) until 2030.
The co-management plan development and approval represents an important milestone, underscoring the commitment of provincial authorities to adopting co-management approach for enhancing the effectiveness of fisheries resource protection, conserving marine ecosystems, and developing sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities. The effort contributes to the implementation of related national policies, plans, and regulatory frameworks in the fisheries sector and others.
The Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee approved the “Provincial Co-management Plan for fisheries resource protection in coastal waters” per Decision No. 1835/QD-UBND dated June 27, 2025.
The Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee approved the “Provincial Co-management Plan for fisheries resource protection” per Decision No. 01153/QD-UBND dated September 29, 2025.
The Co-management Plans clearly define the geographic areas, scopes, and target groups for implementation; establish organizational structures, coordination mechanisms, and the roles and responsibilities of participating stakeholders; and identify key solutions and priority projects to be implemented through to 2030.
The development, finalization and approval of the Co-management Plans in both provinces have been carried out with technical assistance from MCD and relevant experts, under the guidance and support of the national management agency (Department of Fisheries and Resources Surveillance), and in particularly the dedicated effort and strong commitment of the technical departments, local authorities, and provincial leadership of Khanh Hoa and Ca Mau provinces.
