A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build public private collaborations towards a circular economy for plastic waste management was signed in JW Marriot – Hanoi on 19 February 2020. In the first time, the agreement, was signed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Dow Chemical Company Vietnam, Siam Cement Group (SCG), and Unilever Vietnam International.

According to Mr. Vo Tuan Nhan – Deputy Minister of MONRE, the signing of the MOU is the sharing of goals, vision and responsibilities for promoting the circulating economy in Vietnam between MONRE and businesses responsible through cooperation to build a public-private partnership (PPP) model to promote more efficient sorting and recycling of general waste and plastic waste.

“This event also demonstrates the strong commitment and determination of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in solving solid waste and plastic waste, we always listen, learn and be willing to cooperate with all parties to together protect the environment for the target of sustainable development of the country” the Deputy Minister emphasized.

Currently, the problem of plastic waste, especially the ocean plastic waste, lies not only in the responsibility of state management agencies, but also the responsibility of the whole society, enterprises and the community.
