Following systematic and organisational approaches to strengthening skills and knowledge is MCDs development strategy for staff and key partner involved in coastal resource management and community development. Our experiences in skill-training on coastal resource management and development are documented and shared to local partners as well as other NGOs.



Reponsibilities

  • Assess training need for MCD staff and key partners as development-oriented strategy in technical, management and soft skills.
  • Develop the strategy to strengthen and fill up the capacity-gap of MCD staff and key partners as well as other NGOs. The strategy is implemented through training courses and other events for capacity building, strengthening capacity effectively, creatively and lively.
  • Liaise and maintain relationships with relevant experts to cooperate and provide training as requested, with the highest effectiveness.
  • Mobilise participation of MCD staff and key partners in documenting experiences about basic skills in resource management and development.
  • Share effectively experience documentation regarding skills development of MCD staff and other NGOs.

       Main Activities

  • Conduct the training need assessment and assess current capacity of MCD staff
  • Coordinate information and assign MCD staff to take part in capacity-building events.
  • Organise training courses, seminars and other events annually for MCD staff and key partners at all levels.
  • Strengthen opportunities for capacity building for MCD staff through cooperation with international and national experts based on need and technical working process with prioritised themes.
  • Build capacity profiles and monitor, evaluate process of capacity development for MCD staff as well as other partners.
  • Develop the content of experience documentation about skills development in coastal resources management and development. Consult with other stakeholders, complete the documentation;
  • Share the documentation for local officers and other NGOs through dialogue and distribute in Community Learning Centre, local library and other forums.

             3 outstanding achievement in 2008 and early 2009

  • 40 events of capacity building for MCD staff and partners were organised and facilitated, gaining technical knowledge about Coastal Resource Management and a cross-cutting issue: Climate Change and Its impact;
  • Strengthened information sharing about orientation and strategy development of MCD for MCD staff and main partners at all levels through a workshop: MCD human and organisation;
  • Capacity of Research for MCD staff is being strengthened and effectively applied in work. In early of 2009, 5 MCD staff were involved in 2 technical research projects at expert level: Research on Assessment of current management of core zone, Red River Biosphere Reserve and Sustainable Livelihood Assessment.

             Activities in half of 2009

  • Update need of training and core plan for capacity building for MCD staff and key partners;
  • Organise a training course on Approach of Sustainable Livelihood Assessment, DFID guidance;
  • Organise Internal training course and share experiences about tools of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA);
  • Organise Internal training course about National Regulation of Labour (Labour law);
  • Organise Internal seminar about NGO brand and strategy, specifically related to MCD
  • Organise Training course about Development Project Management for MCD staff and other NGOs;
  • Strengthen research capacity for MCD staff through co-conducting applied research;
  • Organise Advance English course for MCD staff and other NGOs;
  • Facilitate MCD staff to take part in various events of strengthening capacity of leadership skills and Community based Coastal Resource Management (CBCRM) in Philippines and Indonesia.
